Flash creates a lot of problems when doing SEO. An HTML version of your website can be a solution.

Flash looks great! It can inhance a website a great deal if used right. However, flash is a major problem when you are trying to search engine optmize a website.

Basically Flash is mathematically based vector graphic. This means that whatever text you have in the Flash – it is not readable text by Google, but just a lot of numbers. So all this nice looking and “flashy” text is absolutly worthless in SEO terms. Google loves text they can read, but when you put it all in Flash you don’t get any “points” for the text.

One solution we tend to use in Dubai First SEO is having an HTML version of the website. So you can still keep your nice looking flash site and then just have another version which is a lot more search engine friendly. These can easily co-exist!

SEO and SEM spending expected to rise in 2009

I just read an article about expected ad spend in Denmark for 2009. Pretty much everything is down except for online marketing which is expected to rise 10% on average. At the same time offline marketing like TV and Print is seen to fall.

SEO and SEM spending is pulling that figure positive while banner advertising is expected to be flat.  SEM is expected to rise 30% in spending for the year 2009 and SEO is expected to rise even 50%.

Denmark is a fairly mature online market with a high penetration of broadband and usage. In Dubai and UAE in general the growth of SEM will likely be even higher as it comes from a lower percentage of overall ad spend and this growth will almost entirely be driven by Google’s Adwords, since Google has the by far the highest amount of visitors and growth. I would also expect SEO growth in Dubai and UAE to be much higher than 50%, since it comes from currently a very low level and just now companies are starting to realise the enormous potential and value of being on the first page of Google’s organic search results.

I wrote yesterday about the need to have a target to optimize against in your online marketing. It really makes a big difference, and if you are not convinced it’s because you have not tried to optimize your online marketing spending against a target. It makes a world of difference!

Once you agree with me, you are ready to start using the fantastic CPA Optimizer in Google Adwords. Instead of running your campaign with CPC bids on each term (and do remember to have them minimum both as broad match and exact match, if they have volume) you actually let Google take over the CPC bidding with this CPA Optimizer.

SEO - You get what you pay for!- one of the things I did was blogging about investing in search engines and the fight between Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft. So that was the perspective of the investor. I still believe that investing in one of these companies will be a great longer term investment – guess which one..?

However, investing in shares and options can be risky, as have clearly been the case the last 1,5 years. So the safest and best investment you can probably make is getting some quality SEO and SEM for your business. Its about getting those people to your website, who have actually actively searched for your products. There are no more likely customers, than the ones, who already spend time searching for it. It’s proven over and over again.
